German RuneQuest Society
As one of the current chairmen I feel obliged to point at the activities
of this organisation. Check out our
official webpage for more information, but let's suffice to say here
that we are an organisation devoted to further the game of RuneQuest and
related games as well as the world of Glorantha.
Our Activities:
We will try to help contact other RQ players
(mainly in Germany, but also elsewhere if we have contacts). Anybody who
wants to be contacted by other RuneQuesters or Gloranthaphiles is encouraged
to send me a message with his or her address, e-mail, and phone, and possibly
special areas of interest. I will try to put these data into a data-base
and contact these people via email as soon as anybody sends me an e-mail
looking for contacts in the same region (I'd appreciate if people looking
for contacts agree to be included in the data-base, but that's not obligatory.
None of these data will be given away for commercial use). If there is
a demand for such a thing, I might try to set up a black board for contacts.
German RQ-Cons
These are held annually at Pentecost, at varying locations. 1998's convention
is planned to be held at Burg Stahleck in Bacharach on the Rhine (again,
like in 1996 and 1997). We hope to be able to offer another medium-sized
Glorantha freeform game, Life Action Trollball, game rounds in German and
English, Dragon Pass and/or Nomad Gods boardgames, panels, etc.
Preliminary Announcement for the 9th German RuneQuest Con - 1998
1998's RuneQuest Con will take place, as last year's, at the youth hostel
Burg Stahleck in Bacharach on the Rhine. The con will be held on Whitsun
weekend from Friday evening till Monday, around noon or so. The castle
and village under it are alone worth the trip. Our invitations as Guests
of Honor for the 1998 con went to:
Michael O'Brien, David Hall, and Sandy Petersen.
To finance their travel costs we have initiated a Teelo-Norri-Fund.
We would greatly appreciate any donations.
Last year's con started on Friday and turned out rather well because
we then had more time for getting acquainted and for playing games. We
will again be starting on Friday, but the opening greeting will be on Saturday
for those of us who arrive then. Aside from its idyllic atmosphere, the
hostel offers enough space for all. The cost of the con is DM 130 (German
Marks), or 100 for those who arrive on Saturday. The free-forms (LARPs)
will cost around DM 10. We have to ask that anyone coming by car please
bring others, so as to travel in as few vehicles as possible as there is
only limited space for parking.
Planned Program Points
-
"Heroes of Wisdom" - a re-run of 1995's freeform game
-
"The King's Funeral"- a smaller Ralios free-form than last year's for only
twenty players, from Ingo Tschinke, possibly in English language
-
Trollball! The famously foul German version -as every year- a must (please
bring your own inflatable pool toys and things for use as "weapons", since
ours have suffered through the last years).
-
Duck Lecture (new improved version) from Volker Wagner (also available
in printed form!)
-
Auction with our auctioneer, Volker Wagner
-
Lore Auction
-
Cultural Exchange
-
Roleplaying, Boardgames, etc.
Concerning Trollball: Please bring inflatable pool toys and things for
use as "weapons". Further info regarding the con will be sent upon our
receiving your registration. Vegetarian meals are available and the rest
is also good. Breakfast and dinner are included in the basic price. Lunch
can be purchased for those who are not too busy gaming and discussing Glorantha.
Those arriving by train can call the hostel to have someone drive down
to pick up their baggage. The scenic footpath to the castle is not long,
but is rather steep. Since the youth hostel has retained the pavement of
a medieval castle (even though the interior was modernized), mind your
legs, especially in the dark!
Magazines
Free INT was the name of the German language magazine of the RQ
Society before it was changed into "Schattenklinge". Tradetalk is
our English language magazine which has translations of some of our original
stuff from Free INT plus a few previously unpublished articles. Apart from
publishing these, we also distribute a couple of other English language
RQ- or Glorantha magazines in Germany and parts of Europe.
Other Publications:
We have produced booklets for out freeform games, and we have published
two German language scenario booklets set in Sartar.
The Chaos Society in the US and Down Under
Recently our members who live far from Germany have spawned similar organisations
in distant lands. For the US, contact Scott
Knowles, for Australia contact Andrew
Bean.
